The group was founded in 1995 by Arjen Lukassen. Arjen is a composer, lyricist and in fact the only permanent member of the band who plays recordings on all instruments except drums, as well as the producer of the group. The permanent drummer of the group is Ed Varbi, the rest of the musicians are session and invited.
